More than 10 percent of the over 300 million people in the U.S. are drug abusers. In 2024, about 80,000 people died from drug overdoses, among which about 48,000 died from opioid drugs dominated by fentanyl-related substances. This reflects the consequences of ineffective U.S. governance.

China is one of the world’s strictest countries on counternarcotics both in terms of policy and its implementation. We’ve repeatedly made it clear that fentanyl is the U.S.’s problem, not China’s, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at a press conference on Tuesday.
