1. China's Foreign Minister visits UK to restart strategic dialogue
China and Britain need to strengthen dialogue and communication, said visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Thursday when he co-chaired the 10th China-UK Strategic Dialogue with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in November has provided guidance and given impetus to the improvement and enhancement of bilateral relations.
The two sides have since resumed exchanges in various fields and mechanisms of communication, with positive outcomes. This has boosted the confidence of the two societies and has sent a positive message to the world, Wang said.

2. Chinese animated film 'Ne Zha 2' becomes global box office sensation
The Chinese animated film "Ne Zha 2" has become a global box office sensation. It has achieved a historic milestone as the first non-Hollywood production to top China's box office, with over $1.3 billion in ticket sales.
The animation, hailed as a milestone in Chinese film history, took five years to complete -- two years longer than initially planned. The next sequel is slated for release in 2028.

5. China regulates installation of image-collection devices to protect privacy
China's State Council has issued new regulations aimed at curbing the unauthorized installation of image-collection devices in private spaces, emphasizing the dual goals of enhancing public safety and safeguarding personal privacy.
The regulations include 34 provisions that prohibit the installation of such devices in areas where privacy could be compromised, including homestays, dormitories, fitting rooms, and other spaces where individuals might be photographed, monitored, or recorded without their consent.

6. Tesla's Megapack battery plant starts production in Shanghai
U.S. carmaker Tesla's new Mega factory in Shanghai, dedicated to manufacturing its energy-storage batteries, known as Megapacks, launched production on Tuesday, marking a significant expansion of the company's presence in China.
The plant can reach an initial annual production capacity of 10,000 units, or roughly 40 gigawatt-hours of energy storage, which can meet the electricity consumption of about 13,000 households for a year.

8. Jurassic bird fossils found in Fujian rewrite history of avian evolution
A set of fossils discovered in East China's Fujian province has been identified as the only known unambiguous record of Jurassic birds, pushing back the origin of birds to the late Middle Jurassic period and rewriting the history of avian evolution.
After a year of restoration and research, researchers confirmed that the set of fossils discovered in November 2023 in Daxi village of Fujian's Zhenghe county belong to a bird from the late Middle Jurassic period, dating back approximately 150 million years.

9. Legendary giant panda Yong Ming dies at 32.5 in Chengdu
Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding announced on Friday that male panda Yong Ming, which had made contributions to China-Japan joint study on panda reproduction, died at 32.5 on Jan. 25 in Chengdu, southwest China’s Sichuan Province.
Yong Ming is equivalent to the advanced age of human beings close to 100 years old. Born on Sept. 14, 1992, it was the backbone of China’s largest overseas panda family, the renowned “Bang family” in Japan.

10. 1 dead, 28 missing in Sichuan landslide
As of 11 a.m. Sunday, a landslide in southwest China's Sichuan Province had left one person dead, 28 missing and two injured.
