
(ECNS) -- Beijing welcomed 91,000 inbound tourists during the 2025 Spring Festival holiday, marking a year-on-year increase of 51.9 percent, with the tourism revenue from inbound visitors reaching 930 million yuan (about $129.54 million), up by 52 percent year on year, according to Beijing Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau on Tuesday.
During the holiday, Beijing received a total of 17.589 million tourists, generating a total tourism revenue of 28.67 billion yuan. The city hosted 2,756 events across seven categories, including temple fairs, intangible cultural heritage exhibitions, ice and snow activities, and rural experiences.
Wangfujing Street, Tiananmen Square, Qianmen Street, Liangma River International Waterfront, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Temple of Earth, Yuanmingyuan Ruins Park, Badaling Great Wall, and Nanluoguxiang Lane are the top 10 scenic spots (areas) in terms of tourist visits.
Twenty-three temple fairs, lantern festivals, and garden parties held in the city attracted 4.089 million visitors.
Traditional temple fairs such as those held at the Temple of Earth, Longtan Temple Fair, and Changdian Temple Fair remained popular destinations. Some temple fairs not only retained classic activities like dragon and lion dances and folk performances but also incorporated innovative elements such as AR technology and interactive experiences, allowing visitors to appreciate the modern charm of traditional Chinese New Year customs.
An array of activities during the holiday have stimulated consumption. Official data released by the city’s Culture and Tourism Bureau showed that 590 key cultural and tourism venues attracted a total of 23.16 million visitors, generating revenue of 1.17 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.4 percent. The city's key ski resorts welcomed 232,000 visitors, with revenue reaching 38.391 million yuan.
Additionally, there were 1,655 offline commercial performances across 110 performance venues in Beijing, attracting about 330,000 audience members. The total box office revenue exceeded 53 million yuan. Compared to the same period in the previous year, the number of performances, audience and box office increased by about 9 percent, 7 percent and 8 percent respectively.
