(ECNS) -- China will target the layout of frontier fields such as humanoid robot, metauniverse and quantum technology, to accelerate the research and development of 6G technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said at a press conference Wednesday.
MIIT minister Jin Zhuanglong said the ministry encourages local governments to take the lead in speeding up the layout of future industries to seize the chances of a new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation.
Supported by the ministry, a working group of IMT2030 (6G) has been set up to build a platform that integrates production, study, research and application for industries. It will also encompass research institutions and basic operators for further international cooperation, as well as communication and technology research and development, said Jin.
According to the press conference, China has built the world's largest 5G network with advanced technologies. More than 2.31 million 5G base stations have covered all prefecture-level cities and urban areas of all counties in China.
The supply capacity of the 5G network has played a leading role in building a complete industrial chain covering systems, chips and terminals.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–2025), China will vigorously promote the integration of 5G technology applications and product application achievements, especially the deep integration of 5G+ Industrial Internet and the manufacturing industry, said the press conference.
