January 31 is the eve of the Chinese Lunar New Year. Kunming of China, Colombo of Sri Lanka and Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia were lit up simultaneously to officially kick off Seasonal Celebration for Enduring Bonds: 2022 Spring Festival Cultural Events and International Spring Festival Gala. Overseas Chinese and friends from all over the world gathered together on the Cloud to enjoy this Spring Festival cultural feast from many countries in South and Southeast Asia hosted by Yunnan.
Guided by the State Council Information Office of China, the event was jointly sponsored by the Information Office and the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Yunnan Province, undertaken by China News Service Yunnan branch, and co-organized by the Information Offices of the People's Governments of 16 prefectures and cities in Yunnan. The content of the event was rich and colorful, including the “Lighting Up the Spring Sky” Launch Ceremony, Spring Awakening: International Spring Festival Gala, Spring Reunion: New Year-themed Documentaries, short videos of “Unique Cuisine for the Spring Festival” --sumptuous food and dishes prepared for the lunar New Year, dreaming to Yunnan -- video and picture exhibition themed on “Beautiful China, Colorful Yunnan”.
Yunnan, located in the southwest border of China, is geographically close to and has frequent exchanges with South Asia and Southeast Asian countries. In recent years, the “Belt and Road” initiative has been further promoted, and Yunnan has been increasingly closer with Sri Lanka and Malaysia in various fields. On the evening of the 31st, representatives from all walks of life from the three places gathered together to kick off “Lighting Up the Spring Sky” and expressed their expectations and good wishes for the Spring Festival. Zeng Yan, Head of Publicity Department and Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee, Ouyang Yujing, Chinese ambassador to Malaysia, Tiong King Sing, Special Envoy of the Malaysian Prime Minister for China Affairs, Qi Zhenhong, Chinese ambassador to Sri Lanka, Vidura Wickramanayake, State Minister of National Heritage, Performing Arts and Rural Arts Promotion of Sri Lanka, Palitha Kohona, Sri Lanka's ambassador to China and other representatives of the three countries gave addresses on the opening ceremony.
Zeng Yan, Head of Publicity Department and Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee, said that the Spring Festival is the grandest traditional festival of the Chinese nation and embodies the essence of peace and cooperation, innovation, progress, openness and inclusiveness in the 5000 years of Chinese civilization. South Asia and Southeast Asian countries and China have a long history of exchanges and cooperation, and they are close to Yunnan, which is known as the "World Garden". On this land of talents and vitality, people of all countries not only have a long history of exchanges, but also have broad prospects for partnerships. The first session of COP15 meeting was successfully held in Kunming, China in October last year. Yunnan is willing to work with all to constantly keep on the right track, carry out innovation, forge ahead and carry out positive exploration and practice for building a community for human beings and natural creatures.
Ouyang Yujing, Chinese ambassador to Malaysia said that China and Malaysia are neighbors across the sea and have a long traditional friendship. In recent years, with the joint efforts of both sides, China-Malaysia relations have been developed continuously, and bilateral cooperation has great prospects in the future. The two sides will further reinforce alignment of development strategies, have quality cooperation in building the “Belt and Road”, plan and carry out exchanges and cooperation in the post-pandemic era.
Qi Zhenhong, Chinese ambassador to Sri Lanka, said that although Yunnan and Sri Lanka are separated by thousands of mountains and rivers, the history of friendly exchanges between the two sides lasts for thousands of years. The “Belt and Road" initiative has written a new chapter in the new era for exchanges and cooperation between Yunnan and Sri Lanka. In 2022, China and Sri Lanka will jointly celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Rubber-Rice Pact. Let's work together to lighten up the spring, continue to work hard, move forward bravely, and make greater contributions to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and upgrading of China-Sri Lanka traditional friendly cooperation.
The highlight of the event --Spring Awakening: International Spring Festival Gala was also officially launched. The party took a large number of images and videos showing the cultural links between China's spring festival culture, national culture and South Asia & Southeast Asian countries as the narrative main line, the excellent literary and artistic performances in Yunnan Province and some South and Southeast Asian countries as the main content, and used six chapters of "spring start", "spring ploughing", "spring banquet", "spring joy", "spring flower" and "spring glow" to highlight the concept of affinity, sincerity, benefit and inclusiveness, show the beautiful vision of being good to neighbors, partners with neighbors, inclusiveness and mutual learning among civilizations.
At the party, artists of all ethnic groups in Yunnan put on traditional programs such as "Phoenix Flying into the Sky" adapted from the Dai intangible cultural heritage dance "Jinnaluo", as well as innovative works such as "Impressive Sound", which showed the life and production of people of all ethnic groups in Yunnan. Artists from South Asia and Southeast Asia put on special programs such as Malaysian dance "The Pulse of Rain Forest" and Sri Lankan dance "The Glory of Luck".
