An armored car carrying large amounts of cash caught fire along Liuqin highway in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, CNTV reported on Friday.
All 11 boxes of cash, the value of which CNTV failed to mention, burned to ashes in the fire. Guards attempted to put the fire out when it first started with the on-board extinguisher, but it was expired and didn't work.
The fire was eventually put out by local firefighters.
Police from the nearby city of Qinzhou are investigating the cause of the fire.
