Title of academician must not be linked to material benefits: CAE President

The Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) held a conferment ceremony in Beijing on Friday for newly elected academicians. 　

Li Xiaohong, President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering presented certificates to newly elected academicians and delivered a speech. 　

He pointed out that maintaining the purity of the title of academician is the responsibility of every academician. 　

"We should cherish the title of academician as we care for our eyes," he said, "If an academician is tempted by money and fame, deviates from academia and ethics, and even embarks on a criminal path, it will certainly hurt us, affect the reputation of the academicians, and damage the image of the academics." 　

Li emphasized that title of academician must not be linked to material benefits. 　

"Being an academician, we should be more strict in self-discipline, strengthen team management, consciously resist all kinds of bad customs, and be a model of academic ethics, so that the spirit of science can be internalized in our hearts and externalized in our actions," he added.
