The fresh bamboo shoot harvesting season has begun in Nanchuan District of southwest China's Chongqing.

Farmers in Jinfo Mountain wore hats and carried bamboo baskets on their backs to pick bamboo shoots on Saturday.

Bamboo forests cover an area of 240,000 mu (16,000 hectares) in Jinfo Mountain.

The annual production volume of bamboo shoots has reached 30,000 tonnes. Industries related to bamboo yield 500 million yuan ($68.6 million), and benefit 50,000 farmers.

In Wengsheng Village of Tongzi County, southwest China's Guizhou Province, farmers have been busy shelling bamboo shoots.

Tongzi County is known as a "hometown of the square bamboo." In recent years, the county took this advantage to develop square bamboo industry to accelerate economic growth. There are 1 million mu (66,667 hectares) of square bamboo forests in Tongzi County. The bamboo-related industry has become an income booster for the locals.
