The Chinese Embassy in Japan on Tuesday criticized Japan's plan to dump radioactive wastewater from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the Pacific Ocean.
There was no precedent for disposing of nuclear-contaminated water to the sea since the peaceful use of nuclear energy by mankind, Chinese Ambassador to Japan Wu Jianghao told a press conference.
"Who will monitor the discharge that has so much uncertainty for so long? How to monitor? How to ensure the credibility of monitoring? There is no tangible conclusion to any of these questions," said Wu.
He urged the Japanese side to call off the ocean discharge plan, earnestly consults with the international community, and jointly explore a scientific, safe and transparent way to deal with the issue that is acceptable to all parties.
