Six airliners from China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines arrived in Bali, Indonesia, on Wednesday to pick up over 2000 Chinese passengers who were stranded due to a volcano eruption last weekend, thepaper.cn reported.
Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport closed on Monday. 445 flights were canceled and nearly 60,000 passengers were stranded.
The airport reopened on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Chinese Consulate General in Denpasar. Future closures depend on wind direction and the influence of volcanic ash.
The eruption of the Mount Agung volcano is expected to last for two more days. Around 15,000 Chinese tourists are still trapped on the island.
The Chinese Consulate General will continue coordinating with travel agencies and airlines to accommodate and transport the trapped Chinese passengers.
