Two Chinese divers, Zhang Wenao and Hu Yukang swept the men's 1-meter springboard final in first and second place respectively at the 2025 Federation Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU) Summer World University Games in Berlin, Germany, on Tuesday.
Zhang ranked in the second place after the first dive with 69.00 points, but soon took the leader's position by scoring 77.50 points in the second round. He never let others shake him down since then and secured the gold medal with a total score of 425.85 points.
Hu was in fifth after the first attempt with 63.00 points. He underperformed in the second round and dropped to eighth. However, Hu managed to adjust this mindset and began to crawl back place by place. Having got 72.00 points in the sixth and final dive, he finished as the runner-up of the event with 368.75 points.
The bronze went to home favorite Tim Axer who had 354.80 points.
In other action, China's Guo Qing secured the women's taekwondo 53-kilogram title after defeating Chutikan Jongkolrattanawattana of Thailand 2-1 in the final.
China currently are in second on the medal table with 12 gold, 17 silver and four bronze medals.
