A Chinese-developed meteorological disaster early warning project won the 2025 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) prize at the WSIS Forum on Monday.

Launched by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), the project "Rapid, accurate and secure production, dissemination and communication of early warning for meteorological disaster" was announced the winner in the category of information and communications technology (ICT) applications in E-environment.

Altogether 19 winners were selected from 973 submissions for this year's WSIS prizes.

As authoritative global awards in the field of sustainable and digital development, the WSIS prizes recognize outstanding projects that advance sustainable development through the use of ICTs.

CAICT President Yu Xiaohui said in his acceptance speech that China has been actively responding to climate change and implementing the UN's Early Warnings for All initiative, emphasizing that all relevant groups should be informed in a timely manner when disasters occur.

The WSIS is a multi-stakeholder UN process on digital governance and cooperation.

This year's WSIS Forum, co-hosted by the International Telecommunication Union and the Swiss Confederation, will serve as a platform for government and industry representatives from over 150 countries to explore ways to address the digital divide and global technological challenges, as well as discuss emerging technology trends.
