A Chinese national surnamed Zhong has been rescued through the joint efforts of multiple parties, according to a statement released by the Chinese Embassy in Thailand on Friday. Zhong, reportedly a model from South China’s Guangdong Province, had earlier been lured to Myanmar and illegally detained.
The Chinese Embassy and Consulates in Thailand once again reminded Chinese nationals to be vigilant against overseas “high-paying job” scams. They also emphasized that foreign nationals working in Thailand must obtain proper authorization.
Previously, according to Zhong’s sister, her brother received an offer on June 8 to appear on a magazine cover and flew from Guangzhou to Thailand. On June 13, he informed the family that he had been trafficked to Myanmar but did not disclose his exact location. He then lost contact with them.
