As the Chinese mainland welcomes the celebration of the Chinese People's Police Day on Monday, January 10, the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) is launching the official WeChat account on this occasion showing that it is proud of being part of the Chinese police. The classic Chinese cartoon, Black Cat Detective, also unveiled a special edition to enhance public awareness on national security.

In July, 2020, China decided to declare January 10 as the Chinese People's Police Day, which is a celebration specially designated for the police in full recognition of their heroic struggle in the interests of the Party and the people. As this year marks the second year of the celebration of the Chinese People's Police Day, a number of activities were organized across the country, including the artistic performance for anti-fraud promotion staged in Qingdao, East China's Shandong Province, and the police flag-raising ceremony in South China's Guangdong Province.

The HKPF, which has been going through a challenging period to bring back stability to Hong Kong Special Administrative Region after social turmoil in 2019, decided to launch its official WeChat account on this day to enhance communication and information disclosure about anti-fraud and anti-criminal activities.

"January 10 is the special festival set up for the Chinese people's police, which fully recognizes the police contribution to the country and to the people. As part of the Chinese police, we hope to launch our account to pay tribute to our comrades in the mainland," a spokesperson of the HKPF told the Global Times.

To celebrate the police day, the People's Daily, along with the Shanghai Animation Film Studio, released a special edition of the popular classic Chinese cartoon Black Cat Detective, featuring Black Cat detective fighting external forces that endanger the social stability of the forest where he lives. The special edition story began with some experts from the forest who went missing or died in accident and worked in biotech, aerospace, military and energy.

In 2021, 261 police officers and 131 auxiliary police officers sacrificed their lives and 4,375 police officers and 3,420 auxiliary police officers were injured, media reported on Sunday. Since 1949, about 16,000 police officers have died in the line of duty and more than 300,000 injured. Among them, over 3,700 are considered martyrs.
