The rate of coronavirus cases among young people under the age of 20 in Israel has risen significantly, reaching almost a third of all cases detected so far in the country, according to data issued by the state's Ministry of Health on Sunday.

The data showed that the rate of young people up to the age of 19 tested positive for coronavirus rose from 17.4 percent of all cases on April 18, to 22.4 percent on June 19, and to 30.9 percent at present.

The rate of children under the age of 10 who were tested positive rose from 5 percent of all cases in April to 6.8 percent in June and to 10.2 percent at present.

At the same time, the rate of patients over the age of 70 gradually dropped from 9.4 percent in April to 8.3 in June, and to 6.2 percent today.

With division into 10-year age groups, the rate of coronavirus cases between ages 10 and 19 became the highest, 20.7 percent, compared to other 10-year age groups, for the first time since the pandemic outbreak in the country in late February.

Until now, the highest infection rate has been among ages 20 to 29, as in April it was almost twice as high as the 10 to 19 age group figure.

The number of coronavirus cases in Israel reached 185,490, of which 50,749 are currently active.
