Africa's COVID-19 cases surpass 84,634: Africa CDC

Special: Battle Against Novel Coronavirus

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases across Africa rose to 84,634 as of Monday afternoon, the Africa Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said on Monday.

The continental disease control and prevention agency, which noted that the virus has so far spread into all of the 54 African countries, said that some 32,494 people who had been infected with the COVID-19 had recovered across the continent as of Monday afternoon.

The death toll due to the COVID-19 pandemic across the African continent also surged to 2,766 as of Monday afternoon, according to the Africa CDC.

The Africa CDC currently estimates fatality rates of COVID-19 cases to be around 3.4 percent in the continent.

Figures from the Africa CDC also showed that amid the rapid spread of the virus across the continent, the highly COVID-19 affected African countries include South Africa, Egypt, Morocco as well as Algeria.
