Super Typhoon Mangkhut is expected to make landfall in Hong Kong, China's Special Administrative Region, on September 16, causing heavy rain and intense wind, according to Hong Kong Observatory.

Due to the intense weather conditions, flights arriving to or departing from Hong Kong over the weekend will be affected. Many major airliners have issued notice briefing customers on flights delay and cancellations and encouraging them to re-book or turn to another transit destination.

Typhoon Mangkhut, with maximum sustained winds of 240 kilometers per hour, is forecast to move in the general direction of the Philippine island of Luzon on Thursday and Friday, entering the South China Sea on Saturday.

Local resident have been advised to take precautionary measures and avoid water activities.
