A woman who felt forced to have an abortion after her husband wanted a divorce to marry his mistress has been paid 650,000 yuan ($95,680) as compensation.
Pudong District People’s Court said the woman surnamed Wu married a fellow university student surnamed Lu in 2010, and became pregnant in June 2013.
Wu was six months’ pregnant when Lu sought a divorce, claiming their personalities were incompatible. But Wu said Lu was having an affair.
Wu said when she married, she had not demanded to share the ownership of Lu’s house and she had provided financial support to his parents. But, she said he had filed for divorce and forced her to undergo induced labor despite the high surgical risk involved.
Lu’s request to obtain a divorce was twice rejected by the court. In a recent mediation by the court, the couple agreed on the sum of compensation and were granted a divorce.
