Nearly 90 percent of mobile phone users believe that apps are collecting excessive amounts of their personal information, according to a survey conducted by Beijing Consumers Association, reports Beijing Morning Post.

The results of the survey show that around 40 percent of mobile app users say they never read the terms and conditions before installing an app.

Personal information collected by apps about users, including their name, contact details, and profile photo, is at risk of being used inappropriately, said the report. Most respondents are worried that their ID card number and bank account might be stolen or their personal information sold to a third party. And 71 percent of people surveyed believe that the lack of relevant law is a major part of the problem.

Beijing Consumers Association has appealed to China's legislature to take steps to protect user's personal information by strengthening the country's information protection law.
