U.S. Embassy in China stops regular updates of WeChat account due to lapse in appropriations

(ECNS) -- The U.S. Embassy in China on Wednesday announced that it would not update its official WeChat account regularly due to funding lapse.

At this time, scheduled passport and visa services in the U.S. and at U.S. Embassies and Consulates overseas will continue during the lapse in appropriations as the situation permits, according to a statement released by the embassy.

"We will not update this account until full operations resume, with the exception of urgent safety and security information," it said.
