China refutes the false statement made by a U.S. Department of State official on Resolution 2758 of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), saying the statement is a defiant challenge to the one-China principle and a serious political provocation to China, spokesperson for Chinese Embassy in the U.S. said on Saturday.

The U.S. official on Thursday accused China of "inaccurately interpreting" a UN resolution adopted on October 25, 1971, and aimed to "exclude Taiwan from the international organization and its affiliates."

Approved with an overwhelming majority, Resolution 2758 restored the seat and all the rights of the People's Republic of China (PRC) in the UN and acknowledged the PRC is the sole legal government representing the whole China, of which Taiwan is an inalienable part.

In response, the spokesperson said relevant remarks distorted the facts and plotted to breach the one-China principle by deliberately listing China and Taiwan separately.

It is a serious political provocation to China and a malicious misrepresentation of international laws and norms of international relations. China resolutely opposes it and has lodged solemn representation to the U.S. side, the spokesperson stated.

There is only one China in the world, the spokesperson stressed, adding the fact that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China has been well recognized by the international community and confirmed by a series of international accords and agreements.

Noting that the UN is an inter-governmental organization comprised of sovereign states, the spokesperson further pointed out that Taiwan, as an inalienable part of China, has no qualification to join the UN, referring to attempts of some U.S. politicians to support Taiwan's participation in the UN by invoking Resolution 2758.

This is the real misinterpretation of the resolution and a deliberate distortion, said the spokesperson, calling on the international community to jointly condemn such provocative behaviors.

According to the spokesperson, the U.S. support for "Taiwan independence" forces reflects its Cold-War mentality and its plot of containing China.

We urge the U.S. not to underestimate China's firm determination, will and capability to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and not to stand on the opposite side of the 1.4 billion Chinese people.

And we urge the U.S. side to abide by the one-China principle, the three joint communiques between the two countries and stop sending any wrong signal to the separatist forces so as to avoid undermining China-U.S. relations as well as regional peace and stability, added the spokesperson.
