A central government spokesperson on Monday said the latest judgment in Hong Kong pertaining to the anti-mask regulation is conducive to dealing with the city's emergencies and situations that endanger public safety.

The judgment, which was handed down by the Court of Appeal of the High Court of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Thursday, upholds the constitutionality of invoking Hong Kong's Emergency Regulations Ordinance to enact the Prohibition on Face Covering Regulation.

The judgment will help effectively end violence and chaos and maintain social order, said a spokesperson for the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council.

Correcting the original ruling by the Court of First Instance of the High Court, the latest judgment will help the HKSAR chief executive and the government effectively govern the region in accordance with the HKSAR Basic Law and other laws, the spokesperson said.

Hong Kong affairs are China's internal affairs which brook no external interference, the spokesperson noted.
