Kyrgyzstan to ban entry to foreign nationals in COVID-19 fight

Kyrgyzstan is to temporarily ban foreign nationals from entering its territory, Vice Prime Minister Altynai Omurbekova said in Bishkek on Tuesday.

Omurbekova told a news briefing that the decision was made on Tuesday at a high-level meeting and will take effect after adopting a relevant regulatory act.

The vice prime minister also said that the meeting on COVID-19 also proposed to limit the holding of all public events and family celebrations for three weeks.

Meanwhile, the Kyrgyz Railways National Company said that as of March 17, all international non-freight train services have been temporarily suspended to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.

At present, a number of international flights have been canceled at Manas airport. According to official data, there are no confirmed COVID-19 cases in Kyrgyzstan.
