A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Thursday criticized Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for misleading the public on the island and ignoring their interests.

Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks in response to claims by Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen and the DPP that the Chinese mainland intended to "force" the island to accept the "Taiwan version of the 'One Country, Two Systems' principle" by announcing measures to boost cross-Strait ties

The State Council Taiwan Affairs Office and the National Development and Reform Commission on Monday unveiled 26 measures to further promote economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation across the Taiwan Strait.

The DPP authority's comments further laid bare the fact that they only care about the "selfish interests" of their party and have no regard for the interests of the people in Taiwan, Ma told reporters, adding that the "political manipulation" will not work.

The "26 measures," following the "31 measures" released last year, are part of China's mainland's efforts to carry out a "people-centered philosophy of development," he said.

The mainland has continuously provided the same treatment for compatriots and enterprises from Taiwan, let them share the mainland's development opportunities, and improved the interests and wellbeing of Taiwan compatriots, which have been widely welcomed by Taiwan compatriots and enterprises, he added.
