A delegation of consular corps and business communities based in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) began a tour of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Friday to explore potential business opportunities.

Addressing the launch ceremony in Hong Kong, Cui Jianchun, commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the HKSAR, said that strengthening cooperation between Xinjiang and Hong Kong will help combine Xinjiang's advantages – including its geographic location, resources and industries – with Hong Kong's capabilities in funding, services and innovation.

David Whitwam, chairman of the New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, told Xinhua that he hopes to learn more about the technologies involved in breeding dairy cattle and processing dairy products in Xinjiang, and to broker cooperation.

The delegation will visit Urumqi, Kashi and Yining during their trip, which is slated to run through Thursday. Their itinerary includes stops at cooperation zones built under the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as fruit processing firms and dairy companies.
