(ECNS) -- China recorded 460 million border crossings from January to August 2025, up 14.9 percent year on year, according to the Global Public Security Cooperation Forum held in Lianyungang on Thursday.
Of these, around 51.27 million were foreign nationals, a 27.8% increase, including 15.89 million visa-free entries, a surge of 52.1%. Chinese mainland residents accounted for 220 million crossings, while travelers from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan logged 180 million.
The National Immigration Administration said the rise reflects China's broader opening-up and expanded visa-free policies. Citizens of over 40 countries now enjoy unilateral visa-free entry to China, while travelers from 55 countries benefit from up to 240-hour visa-free transit. Special regional programs, such as Hainan's 30-day visa-free entry for 59 countries, also continue to attract visitors.
