Mount Huangshan in Anhui Province has been added to the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves, becoming the 34th listed biosphere reserve in China. The decision was made on Wednesday in Indonesia at the 30th session of the International Coordinating Council of UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Programme.

Mount Huangshan is one of China's major tourist attractions. Extending over a total area of 425 square kilometers, Mount Huangshan was added to China's own list of biosphere reserves in 2015.

The mountain is the first nature reserve in the world to be included in the UNESCO list of World Cultural and Natural Heritage sites, its World Network of Biosphere Reserves, and its Global Geoparks network.

The Man and the Biosphere Programme is an intergovernmental scientific program that was set up by UNESCO in the early 1970s with the aim of improving the interaction between people and their natural environment on a global scale.
