China creates 59.21 mln new urban jobs by August during 14th Five-year Plan

(ECNS) -- By August 2025, China has created a total of 59.21 million new urban jobs during the 14th Five-year Plan period (2021-25), surpassing the target of 55 million, according to a press conference held Friday.

China's employment situation remained generally stable, with continuous optimization of the employment structure and steady improvement in employment quality, said Wang Xiaoping, minister of the Human Resources and Social Security (MHRSS), at a press conference.

During the 14th Five-year Plan period, the social security system has been further strengthened, Wang noted. Currently, the number of people covered by basic pension insurance nationwide has reached 1.072 billion, an increase of over 73 million since the end of the "13th Five-Year Plan" period  (2016-2020), with the coverage rate rising from 91% to over 95%, said the minister.
