(ECNS) -- According to Beacon, as of 4:17 p.m. Monday, the Chinese movie "Evil Unbound" had grossed over 1.25 billion yuan (about $175.72 million), ranking among the top five box-office earners of 2025 in China.
"Evil Unbound" depicts the crimes committed by the Japanese germ warfare Unit 731 during WWII in Harbin, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, including the slaughter of civilians and human experimentation.
Director Zhao Linshan and his team spent six years gathering cross-border evidence, combing through 8,000 pages of declassified U.S. reports and 423 hours of oral histories from former Unit 731 members. They even traveled to Japan to interview surviving soldiers, uncovering the so-called "epidemic prevention agency" for what it was and exposing the crimes against humanity committed by Unit 731.
Zhao said that the film was not to reopen old wounds, but to let the light of peace illuminate the path of civilization.
