(ECNS) -- There's a great future for train connections between China and Europe, and that will become more and more important, said Hannes Fellner, a professor from the University of Vienna, Austria, during an interview with China News Network in Wuyishan, Nanping City of East China' Fujian Province on Friday.

Fellner was in Wuyishan to attend the First Wuyi Forum, hosted by Renmin University of China.

Commenting on China extending its visa-free policy to six more European countries including Austria since March, Fellner said it's a very good thing, especially for people-to-people relations.

People can now very easily go to China and see that China is a great country with diverse culture, the professor added.

He further pointed out that some European countries, following the U.S. steps, impose protectionist measures against China, which are unfair and against the spirit of globalization and free trade. He believes that the bonds of Europe-China friendship cannot be broken and trade protectionism is doomed to fail.

Talking about the role of China-Europe freight train services, Fellner said it's a great contribution.

By the end of February, the train services had expanded to cover 219 cities across 25 European countries, according to data from China Railway.

He said he absolutely agrees that China-Europe Railway Express plays the role of "stabilizer," ensuring the security of international supply chains amid the Red Sea crisis.

He hopes that China and Europe shake hands to bring more peace and more rationality to the world while the train connections are one important part of this handshake.

Themed "The Two Integrations and Modern Chinese Civilization," the First Wuyi Forum has attracted guests from home and abroad to discuss Chinese literary lineage and the diversity of civilizations.

It will last from Thursday to Sunday.
