(ECNS) -- A solo exhibition of Pat Steir, an 83-year-old painter from the U.S., kicked off at the Long Museum in Shanghai on Saturday.

There are 26 paintings on display, dubbed "love letters to China," focusing on classic Chinese art and poetry that has inspired her artistic practice and aesthetic throughout her career.”

Steir's most recent work, the large-scale Rainbow Waterfull (2021) conceived especially for this retrospective, was on display, offering a dazzling demonstration of the artist’s latest development and the synthesis of her unique method.

Steir drew inspiration for her Waterfalls series from Chinese ink paintings, and as she said in a specially-recorded video, “I wanted to paint something that is nature itself.”

"This is the exhibition I’ve been longing for for years," said Steir, "and now I'm so excited that my dream has come true!"
