(ECNS) - JD.com Inc, one of China's largest e-commerce sites, announced Monday that it will recruit up to 15,000 employees this year, just one week after announcing plans to lay off 10 percent of its senior executives.

Some 10,000 new jobs will be added to the logistics arm of the company, mostly delivery people and low-level managers. Additional staff will also be hired to work in the company’s retail arm to focus on improving user experiences.

JD.com said it will make bold moves to promote capable staff members, train more young people to become future business leaders, and create greater value for society in general.

Data shows that the e-commerce giant had more than 170,000 full-time employees by the end of the third quarter of 2018.

It plans to expand its supply chain network to cover all county-level administrative regions in China.

The statement also said that, in the first three quarters of 2018, the company invested 8.64 billion yuan in technology research and development and increased its number of R&D staff to 20,000.
