(ECNS) -- The Chinese Embassy in Myanmar has confirmed that as of 11 a.m. Beijing time on Monday, the 7.9 magnitude earthquake has resulted in the death of one Chinese citizen and injuries to 15 others.
Chinese diplomatic missions in Myanmar are currently assisting the family of the deceased in handling posthumous arrangements.
According to the embassy, it had handled hundreds of requests for assistance from Chinese citizens and helped dozens reconnect with missing relatives. All injured individuals are receiving treatment in hospitals.
As rescue efforts in disaster-stricken areas remain ongoing, the casualty count may continue to rise, according to the embassy. Several Chinese rescue teams, equipped with emergency supplies and rescue gear, have already been dispatched to the affected regions in Myanmar.
