The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government on Wednesday vowed to bring fugitives related to the social unrest two years ago to justice.

By the end of July, 10,265 people were arrested for involvement in social disturbances in the global financial hub in 2019, according to a written reply of the Security Bureau of the HKSAR government to the Legislative Council.

Of the 2,684 people prosecuted as far, 54 saw their prosecution withdrawn and 276 were acquitted.

Meanwhile, 31 people are wanted for their absence from court hearings and 24 failed to report to the police as required. The bureau noted that people who are wanted for prosecution and who are prosecuted but have fled Hong Kong are fugitives, adding that they will be punished in accordance with the law.

Also according to the document, nearly 40 percent of the arrested people were students, with 1,102 having been prosecuted.
