A mainland spokesperson on Wednesday commended the positive remarks regarding the cross-Strait relationship made by prominent figures of the Chinese Kuomingtang (KMT) party.

Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks when commenting on the recently concluded election of the KMT chairperson.

During the election, all four candidates including Eric Chu, who eventually won the election, expressed willingness to uphold the 1992 Consensus, oppose "Taiwan independence," and develop the cross-Strait relationship, noted Zhu.

Zhu also acknowledged their positive remarks of rebooting cross-Strait dialogues, exchanges and cooperations, and safeguarding the peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

The mainland is willing to enhance communication and cooperation with the KMT on the common political basis of the one-China principle, the 1992 Consensus and firm opposition to "Taiwan independence," and exchange opinions on matters related to the security and interests of the people of Taiwan, said Zhu.

The mainland is also ready to work with all political parties, organizations and figures in Taiwan through equal consultation and dialogue to overcome the difficulties in the cross-Strait relationship, Zhu added.

When commenting on the DPP authority's criticism of Chu's remarks, Zhu reiterated that the 1992 Consensus is the political cornerstone of cross-Strait consultation, adding that the DPP has spared no efforts in twisting and denying the consensus, which completely disregards the mainstream expectations of Taiwan society.

Zhu called on all Taiwan compatriots to have a clear understanding of the harmful nature of "Taiwan independence," and do their part in combating the schemes of separatist forces.
