Droves of migratory birds have been making stopovers at a north China lake as they begin their journeys southward to see out the winter.
More than 1,000 swans have arrived at Manzhouli City's Chagaan Lake in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region this year, according to the city's wildlife conservation center.
"Since September, large numbers of migratory birds have been making stopovers in Manzhouli, and the lake has become a favorite spot for swans," said Song Kun, deputy director of the conservation center.
Each autumn, migratory birds such as swans begin flying south from Russia, and stay on Chagaan Lake for two to three days before flocking further south.
Greater numbers of migratory birds have been arriving at the lake each year as the local environment improves.
