A 30-year-old man in the Australian State of Queensland has become the country's youngest person to die from COVID-19, taking the national death toll to 103.

State authorities told reporters on Wednesday that the man, who is from the remote central Queensland region of Blackwater, passed away overnight, testing positive for the virus after his death.

They said that the man had a "complicated" medical history and despite showing symptoms for several weeks never went to a clinic to get tested.

The man's partner was hospitalized in isolation after she too became ill with symptoms similar to COVID-19. However, initial tests on her returned negative for COVID-19.

Queensland State Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said how the man contracted COVID-19 remains a mystery since there were no other cases reported in the Blackwater area before. She urged anyone in the area with symptoms to get tested.

"We need to make sure that people with any flu-like symptoms are coming forward and getting tested," Palaszczuk said.

"Blackwater has never had a case of COVID before. Contact tracing is extensively underway."

As of Wednesday, Australia had recorded 7,133 cases of COVID-19 with 6,533 recovered.
