China's Ministry of Justice and National Immigration Administration (NIA) have held a symposium in Beijing to solicit public opinions on the draft rules on granting permanent residence to foreigners.

The attendees, including personnel of enterprises and public institutions, officials from communities, residents and scholars, agreed that by granting permanent residence, China can attract professionals and investment, which is a common practice for many countries to promote their development.

The attendees also suggested further evaluation and assessment of the draft rules, calling for improved institutional design and more meticulous stipulations on relevant qualifications, requirements and procedures. Enditem
