Cambodia said on Saturday that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is fully confident in China's capacity to control and contain the spread of COVID-19.

"ASEAN Foreign Ministers expressed full confidence in the government and people of China to overcome the epidemic and, in return, their Chinese counterpart extended his appreciation to ASEAN Member States for sympathy, support and assistance," said a Cambodian foreign ministry's statement.

The statement was released after Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn returned from a special foreign ministers' meeting between ASEAN and China on the COVID-19, which was held in Vientiane, Laos on Thursday.

ASEAN groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

During the meeting, Prak Sokhonn, who is also the deputy prime minister, reaffirmed Cambodia's commitment to continue standing firmly with the government and people of China in the fight against COVID-19, the statement said.

Or Vandine, secretary of state and spokeswoman at Cambodia's Health Ministry said the meeting's outcome clearly reflected China and ASEAN's solidarity and commitment to jointly combat the virus.

"We see that China has spared no effort to contain the virus spread, and we're very confident in China's ability to contain it because China has enough resources, both human and medical resources, to control and contain the virus spread," she told Xinhua. "I have strong conviction that China will win the fight against the virus in the near future."

Cambodia's Foreign Ministry spokesman Koy Kuong said he highly praised and valued China's efforts to contain the outbreak.

"China has taken smart, quick and effective measures to control and contain the virus," he told Xinhua.
