Siemens China together with Siemens Healthineers China announced Monday they would further enhance their support to China in fighting the novel coronavirus outbreak.

The two companies will donate medical equipment worth 15 million yuan (about 2.2 million U.S. dollars) to hospitals in Wuhan, and encourage their employees to join the company's action by making voluntary donations.

The donation will partly comprise much-needed computed tomography and mobile digital radiography equipment, which are critical to the scanning and diagnosis of novel coronavirus infection cases.

"At this critical moment, Siemens stands firmly behind all efforts to overcome the impact of the coronavirus. We see this not only as a battle of China, but as one of the whole international community," said Lothar Herrmann, president and CEO of Siemens Greater China, noting that the company is prepared to provide further assistance necessary to support the fight against the virus.

In the wake of the virus outbreak, Siemens Healthineers responded quickly by supplying ultrasound equipment to ICUs in Wuhan hospitals, the company said.

The company's advanced power distribution equipment is currently supporting the power supply of the second makeshift hospital under construction in Wuhan.
