The scenic town of Wuzhen in China's eastern coastal Zhejiang Province will play host to the 16th meeting of the foreign ministers of China, Russia and India on February 27, China's foreign ministry announced on Wednesday.

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi will chair the meeting which will also be attended by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Indian Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang told reporters in Beijing.

Emphasizing that the three countries share common interests in promoting world peace, stability and development and shoulder major responsibility, Geng said that the "consensus of the leaders" will be the "main thrust" at the meeting.

"During this year's meeting, the foreign ministers of the three countries will take the implementation of the important consensus of the leaders as the main thrust, focus on the current international landscape, exchange in-depth views on major regional and international issues of mutual interest and deepen third-party cooperation. We believe that the concerted efforts of the three parties will deliver positive outcomes," he elaborated.

Since its establishment more than 10 years ago, the China-Russia-India cooperation mechanism has served as an important platform for the three countries to enhance strategic communication, coordinate with each other on major issues and seek common ground and cooperation, the Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson remarked.

"In November last year, the leaders of the three countries held an informal meeting in Argentina, pointing out the direction for future trilateral cooperation and injecting strong impetus into it," he added.

At the 15th meeting of the three foreign ministers in New Delhi in December 2017, all the sides vowed for trilateral cooperation in tackling terrorism, the challenges of the global economy, climate change and the changing political scenario in the Middle East and North Africa.

"There are many similarities between us and we can learn from each other.... We will have a different path from others and we will follow the times to foster new relationships and build shared peace for mankind," Wang had said during the New Delhi meeting.
