A young rare black rhinoceros has been born in the Dvur Kralove zoo, said the zoo spokeswoman Andrea Jirousova on Wednesday.

The new born rhino is of a species threatened with extinction.

The Dvur Kralove zoo is one of the world's most successful rhinoceros breeding centres where 45 rhinos have been born in the past 50 years, and it is also the only Czech zoo to breed the Eastern subspecies of the black rhinoceros.

The new rhino born on Sunday is a male and is the 46th rhinos that have been born in the zoo. It weights 40 kilograms, its mother Maisha is 12-year-old female that gave birth to two young before, said Jirousova.

The zoo at present keeps 19 black rhinos including the new one. It is preparing an international transfer of five black rhinoceros to Rwanda. The transfer is planned for the end of May or early in June in 2019. It will be the largest transfer of rhinos from Europe to Africa so far.

The zoo sent four Northern white rhinoceros to the Ol Pejeta nature reserve in Kenya in 2009. Enditem
