When people swarm to Hainan Island to embrace a bright blue sky, bluish-green ocean, soft sand on the beaches and savory seafood, they often select Sanya.

But with tourism developing rapidly, both Yalong Bay and Haitang Bay are often crowded, which can spoil a holiday.

Lingshui Li Prefecture, which boasts similar scenery as Sanya but with less people, is highly recommended.

The prefecture's Clear Water Bay is about a 45-minute drive from Sanya International Airport. A few years ago, Guangdong-based real estate company Agile began to build residential houses, a golf course, marina and a couple of high-end resorts along the 12-kilometer stretch of coastline. Now Clear Water Bay is a well-quipped scenic area.

Raffles Hainan has quickly gained a good reputation among its guests after opening in September 2013.

It has 299 rooms with an average area of 80 square meters. All guest rooms feature ocean views with a private balcony.

The decor is a combination of Hainan and Bali styles. Exquisite designed artworks and local Li embroidery and crafts feature in every room and corner of the hotel.

The resort also has 32 villas, each with a private swimming pool and a butler. Villa guests also have access to the exclusive clubhouse where there is a gym, spa and sauna room.

These villas are designed into different house types to cater to different guests. The largest and most luxurious villa has seven rooms. They include a mahjong room, kitchen, two meeting rooms and a private gym.

Unlike other newly opened hotels that lack thriving vegetation, Raffles Hainan boasts lush greens and flowers that distinguish it from nearby hotels and resorts.

When people stroll around the hotel, they can always see newlyweds taking their wedding photos. The resort's avant-garde chapel, huge lawn and gorgeous beach and ocean act as magnets for couples who want spectacular wedding photos. The Raffles' wedding planning team helps design a unique ceremony for couples.

Another highlight is the Raffles' food and beverage outlets. Baiwei offers tasty Cantonese food, Sapori provides wonderful Italian cuisine and Desa does superb hotpots and other Hainan delicacies.
