Charm of Baltic music to be on display

The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir will give an opening show tonight at the Baltic Sea Music Festival at Shanghai City Theater, part of the Shanghai International Arts Festival.

The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir will give an opening show tonight at the Baltic Sea Music Festival at Shanghai City Theater, part of the Shanghai International Arts Festival.

A highlight of the Shanghai International Arts Festival, the Baltic Sea Music Festival will be held at the Shanghai City Theater November 1-25.

The festival features seven performances from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. Wang Shu, a teacher from the Shanghai Music Conservatory, will give a lecture on the distinctive charm of the music.

Programs will include a Grammy-award-winning Estonia chamber chorus; a piano performance by Estonia national treasure, pianist Rein Rannap; a performance by vocal group Framest; Jazz Island Vocal Ensemble from Lithuania; a mix of classic and rock performances by Estonia's C-Jam four cellos; performance by Arsis Handbell Ensemble from Estonia; and a concert by the Baltic Guitar Quartet.

The performances will provide local people with insights into the folk culture and lifestyle of the Baltic Sea.
