Fantastic summer views at Chengde Mountain Resort

People have been lining up at the front gate of Lizheng, the southern door of the Chengde Mountain Resort, excited and curious to explore the scenic spots inside of the world's largest imperial park.

Construction on the resort began in 1703, and it is divided into four areas. The southern part of the resort is the palace while the northern part is a spectacular grassland. The eastern focus is a magnificent lake view and the western part views a lofty mountain range. The layout of the park is often described as a miniature of the China's entirety.

The park features 72 scenic views which were chosen by the Qing emperors Kang Xi and Qian Long. A full three days is needed to view all of the sites.

Considering that the park was built three centuries ago, its architecture is a marvel. The amount of money and effort required to construct a park of such magnitude is hard to conceive.

But thanks to the Emperor's decision, the resort was made public so all can appreciate its architecture and design.

The park and buildings have been particularly well-preserved by the cultural department and staff.

The popular season in Chengde is from May to October. Thousands of people now go to the resort to relax, just as emperors Kang Xi and Qian Long once did. In winter few people go to the resort, but the snow-covered palace and roads are tranquil and equally captivating as the summer views.
