Invasion of cuteness fluffs up big park

Cat got your tongue? Well, it wouldn't be too surprising considering "Pink Kitten" is a 10-meter sculpture made from interwoven bamboo.

It looks like its waving its paws and doing a little happy dance.

The sculpture is making its global debut in Shanghai at Century Park in the Pudong New Area.

Created by Florentijn Hofman, known for his six-story inflatable rubber duck that wowed Hong Kong and is now in Hangzhou, this feline is part of the ongoing art exhibition "Art For All," which runs through June 16.

Hofman says he came to Shanghai several times to see the urban landmarks and was inspired to do this installation after encountering a stray cat in Fuxing Park.

The model was made by 3D printing at first and then woven with bamboo cane, blending tradition and pioneering techniques.

"I hope everyone who sees it will take a group picture and feel the difference of contemporary art with their families and friends," he says.

The artist says people always see different things in art, but he hopes "Pink Kitten" will be a good companion for a short rest.

The cat is expected to be a permanent park fixture after the exhibition closes.

In addition to the cat, contemporary art and installations by well-known artists including Zhou Chunya and Gao Weignag will be showcased.

Zhou has contributed a piece called "Tree."

Regarded as one of the most important neo-expressionist artists in China, Zhou's sculpture depicts a man and woman having sex among trees and flowers.

It examines morality within the wider context of nature.

Zhang Nan's sculpture "Heavy Punch" is meant to convey human desire and confusion in their struggle for freedom.
