A sacred mountain of Taoism, Dragon and Tiger Mountain in Jiangxi

Are you interested in Taoism­ And do you want to see fantastic sceneries and experience a little bit of Chinese culture­ Or are you seeking for a less touristy and tranquil place to have a rest from bustle and hustle city life­ Then Dragon and Tiger Mountain(also called Longhu Shan in Chinese) in Jiangxi Province is definitely a good choice.

Dragon and Tiger Mountain is located 10 miles south of Yingtan City, Jiangxi Province. Owning a long history, it was originally named "Mount of Splendid Clouds". The mountain was renamed after a Taoist priest who distilled elixirs at the mountain, according to the record of Taoism. Dragon and Tiger Mountain is regarded as a birthplace of Taoism, the mountain is known as one of the Four Sacred Mountains of Taoism. Therefore a lot of pilgrims come to the mountain every year as they regard it as a holy place of Taoism.

The natural scenery is very beautiful in Tiger and Dragon Mountain. The landform is characterizes by red terrestrial rocks and its cliffy scarps. Visitors could take a ride on a small wooden boat and drift along the Luxi River which flows westwards through the mountain area, and they will be able to see all the beautiful scenes, green water, red mountains and moreover enjoy a blue sky and white clouds.

Many Taoist temples were built upon the mountainside. Visitors could also have a chance to drive to the TianShi Fu temple, which is the largest and best-preserved temple in the area.

More interesting, the mountain has a historical burial site of the Guyue people, thus visitors are able to see the ancient cliff tombs. Most of the tombs are about 50 meters above the water and others are more than 300 meter high. Driving on the Lu Xi River you will also be able to see the cliff tombs. Considered dangerous location, large quantity and unique shape, the tombs are titled "the best natural archeological museum of China". Until today no one could exactly tell why and how the ancient site was built. There are several interesting shows which show the visitors how the coffins have been brought to the cliff tombs.

The Province Jiangxi doesn't appear on the must-see list of many travelers, thus the place is less touristy and a tranquil place to relax. Especially for hikers the Tiger and Dragon Mountain is a good place to go as almost all of the major attractions are off in the mountains. Moreover it is very easy to take bullet trains running from Shanghai to Yingtan (about 5 hours).
