Best rooftop patios in Shanghai – Bund Edition

The warm weather blows in on a balmy wind and suddenly we can't get enough of the great outdoors! There's simply no better way to enjoy a gorgeous evening in Shanghai than sitting outside while enjoying a cocktail or two, or perhaps even an entire meal. There is no shortage of rooftop patios in Shanghai, so we've decided to uncover the best spots one area at a time. Under the microscope in this edition: The Bund – Shanghai's ever famous waterfront area and magnet of fine wining and dining.

1) Lost Heaven

One of the best places to ease your out of town guests into the sometimes perilous world of Chinese cuisine, Lost Heaven on the Bund also happens to have a killer patio. With beautiful views and a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere, you'd be hard pressed to find a better evening hangout. Get started on your vacation early with fruity (but strong!) cocktails served in tiki glasses that will make you almost miss those dog days of summer. If you get hungry, nibble on the upscale Yunnan food that's earned Lost Heaven its reputation as one of the city's "must visit" restaurants.

2) Captain's Bar

When one thinks of the Bund, probably the first word that comes to mind is "expensive." Alas, it doesn't always have to be (just most of the time) as Captain's Bar proves time and time again. Perched atop the infamous Captain's Hostel, this bar has a small but sufficient rooftop terrace that serves perfectly in warm weather. While drinks are a depressingly average 40 RMB or so, for the Bund area it's practically a steal! Gaze out over the river and enjoy the majestic lights of Shanghai in a surprisingly cozy corner of downtown. The best part? You'll get to meet those cool hostel type kids just passing through town which always makes for an eventful evening.
