The Naigu Stone Forest lies only 10 kilometers away from Stone Forest Park belongs to Kunming (the capital city ofYunan Province). "Naigu" literally means "ancient and black" in the language of the Yi ethnic group, this word vividly describes the mass of blackish limestone that formed about 270 million years ago. These years, Naigu Stone Forest Geological Park is gradually emerging as a popular tourist destination.

Naigu scenic area covers an area of 30 km2, it is known as a natural museum of karst landforms. Naigu Stone Forest stores a lot of shaped stones that appear as animals, towers, and blockhouses.

Walking in Naigu Stone Forest, odd stones shaped in dark shadow pierce into the sky like angry waves stretch in every direction. Some rocks stand hundreds of meters in height and some flat surfaces look like knife-cut. Seen from the top of nearby mountains, the dense collection of rocks looks like a sea of huge black stones. Besides, tourists also use their imagination to give life of the stones. Some tourist said they saw stone rabbit, stone lion, stone elephant, stone eight diagrams, stone castles and even stone horse and weapons after visiting.

Inside the scenic area located 9 karst caves but only one called white cloud cave (also called crystal palace) is open to tourist. The cave belongs to underground lava topography. All shapes of stalactites and stalagmites could be found everywhere. Even in the summer, tourists travel into the cave may feel chill.

Step out of the dark and narrow caves, tourists might be impressed with the vast grassland surrounding the lofty peaks. In spring and summer the grassland is blanketed with brightly colored wild flowers with towering bluestones in the distance.

No wonder the area was chosen as one of the shooting locations for the TV version of the classic Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. This is truly a perfect place to visit with marvelous scenery and tranquil environment.
