(ECNS) — The New Yalu River Bridge linking China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will officially open on Thursday, with the two sides set to hold a joint opening ceremony, according to an announcement on Wednesday.
The bridge spans the Yalu River, which separates the two countries, near Dandong in northeast China's Liaoning Province and Sinuiju in the DPRK.
The existing Yalu River Bridge, also known as the China-DPRK Friendship Bridge, was originally built as a railway bridge and later converted into a road-rail bridge. It served as a key transport route for wartime supplies during the 1950-53 Korean War.
The opening of the new bridge marks a new development in cross-border infrastructure links between the two countries.
